Double strength caramel colour. A natural colour widely used in food, cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. A dark brown liquid with functionality across a wide range of pH from 2 - 10. Easy to work with due to it's low viscosity. Cost effective, high tinctorial power and excellent microbiological stability. Caramel colours are based on the cooking of sugars and starches, usually from corn. In a product like a soft drink, it will also act as an emulsifier keeping flavours in suspension. It's light protection quality can help prevent oxidation of those flavours. Gives the eggnog colour when added to milk. Combined with Red 40 to create Dutch Chocolate shade in chocolate milk. Blues and yellows can be added to give a more brown colour. Permanently listed as a cosmetic color additive exempt from certification by the FDA, with no restrictions for cosmetic use.
